Homemade Fried Pickles

Have you ever tried fried pickles?  If you like pickles, you will love these.  MMM!!

2 sliced dill pickles
1/2 C buttermilk
(for spicier add some tobasco to the buttermilk)

combine
3/4C white flour
1/3C corn bread stuffing
1 tsp. seasoning salt
1/4 tsp. barbecue spice

Dip the pickles in the buttermilk, and then in the flour mixture. fry in deep fryer 375 degrees for about 3 minutes. You can use a pan of oil as well.

First attempt turned out pretty good. I must admit, I only estimated the ingredients measurements for you. I will definately make them again.

10 Minute Project

I have a shelf hanging in my bathroom and it is an old window made into a shelf.  The middle has been empty ever since my old twig wreath got too dusty, and I threw it away.  So, I have been looking for something to replace it with.  I didn't want to spend over $10 ( I am cheap and poor).  I found this frame.  It was unique, had potential, and it was $9.99 (a little bit of a splurge for a picture frame).  But I think it was worth it.

It reminds me of something my Grandma would have had in her house.  It just need a little updating.

Way cuter?  I printed out a little saying inside.  It says
"BATHROOM RULES
Wash, Brush, Floss, and Flush"

Here it is hanging on my bathroom wall.  My 8 year old never flushes, who knows, maybe this will work for her.  Afterall, she is a rule follower.

Barbecue Chicken Wings

Everyone loved this dinner (maybe its because I haven't made a real dinner in a week).  It started  out as Yoshida Chicken (one of our family favs), but I didn't have enough Yoshida sauce.  This recipe evolved because of some left over sauce I had used from a pinned recipe.
3/4 Cup Yoshida Sauce
3/4 Cup Hawaiian Barbecue Sauce (Target)
1/4 Cup Brown Sugar
1/4 Cup Water
12 Frozen Chicken Wings
Put the wings in a deep frying pan and add the sauces.  Cover and cook on medium heat for about 20 minutes, turning the chicken every few minutes or so. Cook until the wings are tender, uncover and let sauce simmer down to desired thickness. About 10 more minutes uncovered.

I liked this better than just plain Yoshida Sauce.  The sauce was thicker, and just a tad spicy, but my family is wimpy when it comes to spice, and they didn't complain.  Just enough spice to make every pallet happy.

Color, Color, Color!!

Yellow Embossed Dresser

This is truly a one of a kind!!  My friend called me up, knowing I was looking for a dresser to hold piano music.  She asked me if I cared what the dresser looked like.  "Well yeah of course, its going in my front room."  She told me she found one that was Freeee!!  I of course said I wanted it, and she was so sweet, and delivered it to me.  It was UGLY, smelled of cats, and came with a mirror (bonus).
I kept it in my backyard for a while, and then tried it out (after cleaning it of course).  The original color wasn't actually all that bad, it blended in with my walls, but I wasn't proud of it.
I decided I would change the knobs and paint it.  I looked all over the internet, and in several local stores for knobs, and found that it was going to be EXPENSIVE to replace the knobs.  So, I spray painted them black instead ( I had the paint already).  I then decided to match the color with my chair covers.  All I did was lightly sand it, and again (loving behr paint) bought two quarts of behr premium paint in Sunburst (one quart eggshell, and one quart semi-gloss).  I went to my local craft store and picked up a stencil and went to work.  I at first wanted the floral decor to be flat against the surface, but found that it wasn't very visible that way, and so decided to leave it embossed.  The egg shell sheen is on the bottom and the semi-gloss is the embossed design.
I love how subtle the design is, and the punch of yellow is so much fun!!

Painted Piano

I recieved this piano for FREEEEE  about 7 years ago, and I have wanted to paint it ever since.  Originally I planned on painting it black or shabby chic white, but after spotting a turquoise one on Pinterest, I decided to be bold, and add some color to my life.  I took most of it apart, and lightly sanded it.  It was about 100 degrees outside when I woke up one morning and decided to take on this project,  so I painted it right where it stands.  I layed down paper and tape, used a screwdriver, and went to work.  Because I took it apart, I was able to change the knobs, and add the decorative decals on the music stand, and above the pedals.  I used Behr premium paint with built in primer (Swan Sea) and painted 2 coats. I bought a gallon, but used very little.  A quart would do just fine for this small piano.  I also rolled the paint with a foam roller on the flat surfaces, and I used a cheap foam brush for the rest.  It felt like a hefty project at the start, but really only ended up taking me a day.   I think it turned out awesome.  I love the color!!  As you can see all of my walls in my rental home are tan (I am so grateful their not white).   My walls will stay tan, but that doesn't mean I can't find ways to add color and to use paint!!
A closer look at the decals!!  (Hint: buy these at Hobby Lobby, because they are much more expensive at Home Depot).
